23rd May 2014: Stuff's Happened

I've spent many hours going through all my old and never used models that have been collecting dust in the loft, preparing them all for a spraying marathon. It's been very strange tidying up my old Space Crusade stuff, which me and my friends utterly destroyed with our crappy painting efforts back in the early 90s. I've also finally glued together my Orks and Gretchin which I've owned since the 2nd edition box set, so my warboss has got some Boyz to hang around with.
With all my terrain done and (hopefully) soon all my spraying done, all I'll have left is many hundreds of models to paint. I highly doubt I'll be as motivated to get stuck into all those though...

I lucked out recently when I had some models given to me, including some 6mm scale stuff and an original Varag Ghoul-Chewer and Horkon Heartripper. I used to have Varag back when I started playing Blood Bowl in 94, but for some reason I cut his hands off and glued them to a Black Orc to make my own version of the model in an attempt to make him more imposing. More recently I was actually planning on using a Black Scorpion model and an elf I got free with White Dwarf as these characters, but obviously these two new additions will take their rightful places on the pitch.

18th June 2013: All Stop

Yet again the wargaming wheels have come grinding to a halt. After finishing the first Blood Bowl Season 6 knockout tournament we only did one more game, this time in a little 4 team league. Hopefully we will get around to finishing that off soon, and then see where we are. Unfortunately Scoob and I were left to do the games on our own, and that hasn't helped.

I actually managed to do a little painting though, getting all the new teams undercoated and their base colours on. The Crocoviles are going red, the Grog Guzzlers are going brown and bronze, and the Ladies Of The Might are going dark grey and dark blue. I want the Undercity Cheese Thieves to have some kind of yellow as their team colours, but I reckon that it will be a biatch to paint.

19th March 2013: Trying To Grease The Wheels

Wow. Just 4 wargaming blog updates all last year, and this first 2013 entry nearly 4 months in. I really suck at keeping up with all this stuff.

Anyway, I've been pushing a bit recently trying to get everyone back into the idea of wargames, and there's a little bit of interest again. We're not really liking the idea of 40K though. I doubt that it will ever become a popular game with us again. Where there is definite interest is in Blood Bowl. We've decided to definitely scrap the League Of Doom we were doing before, and instead just play random games with random teams whenever we feel like it, but keep the teams from the league and continue their development. Hopefully it won't just be me and the Scoob, as several others have expressed interest in learning the rules. So fingers crossed.

With this looking like it's gonna happen, I went hunting for that 8th and final team I'd always wanted. Back in the 90s, I sold my Skaven, Dwarf and Dark Elf teams to friends, and have always regretted it. I cobbled together Dwarf and Skaven teams over a year ago, so it made sense to go after Dark Elves, as I'd always wanted them back. However, as much as I like the GW Dark Elf models, I just was not gonna pay over £40 for a team and still need to go looking for assassins and star players. And then I came up against another stumbling block when I found out that Impact! minis had released their lizard team in plastic resin taking its price from £60ish down to £20ish. And this for a full team with big guy. Why GW's Failcast went up in price when many other company's restic prices come way down I've no idea.

So, with no real good Dark Elves out there I was gonna just go with the Lizards as the 8th. Then I had another plan. If I got the female Dark Elf team from Shadowforge I could sometimes use them as Dark Elves and sometimes use them as Amazons. As I couldn't choose between these two ideas, I went for both, and put in orders for my first wargaming minis in a very long time.

So just recently a whole host of minis, some new and some rescued from the loft, have been added to my Blood Bowl collection. These include the Shadowforge Wicked Elves, the Sarcos team by Impact & Roll Jordan, and a Reaper Bones minotaur to give my Chaos their big guy at last.

I may have saved some money, but these teams are definitely gonna give me more work to do. The Wicked Elves have quite few mold lines where the 2 halves were not lined up right. Got a few problems with my first ever resin purchase as well, with holes and such, but I guess that's what you get for buying a crappy resin £23 team which in metal costs around £60. Not that it should be an excuse mind.

On another brighter note, finally getting around to working on the WARGAME rules I started months ago. There'll hopefully be a tabletop wargame and hex-based board game. The original plan to also do a 6mm ruleset has been shelved for the moment, as I've already done that with the old Epic-S rules which seem perfectly playable, if not 100% finished.

What's cool about the WARGAME idea is that I could take all the fantasy football big guys from the above pic (well, except the Deathroller) and make a unit of monsters out of them that I could use to beat the crap out of an opponent. I'm aiming for it to be quite flexible so you can make units out of lots of different 28mm models. I could always use the Deathroller as a biker model...

30th July 2012: A Return?

Well so much for really pushing on with my rules, terrain, painting and wargaming in general this year. I have barely done anything since my last wargaming update. I fell out of touch with the Scoob for a few months and without his influence I lost pretty much all interest in the hobby. Doesn't help that I'm really off 40K, and absolutely hate painting.

But still, since the release of 40K 6th edition there has been a little bit of renewed interest. We haven't tried the new 40K yet (and I'm not massively enthused about what I've been reading about it), and my interest has mainly been in my own rules and trying to get those a bit further along.
And then yesterday out of the blue, Mr. Gallear made me do some painting, so I did a Blood Bowl model, which is my conversion I'll be using as Ugroth Bolgrot. I knew I hated painting, I had just forgotten how much. Whether I'll do any thing else wargamey soon I have no idea. Probably not. Could do with getting some more Blood Bowl in though. The last League Of Doom match was last September. Just not good enough.
