5th October 2015: Made It

I'm being naughty here and uploading this blog entry without completing a game, but it still needed to be done as I have just managed to hit a target I've been aiming at for the last few months. Also, it's been a long while since I've done any League coverage, even though it is still my most played game, and has been for the last couple of years.

So, me and Scoob really got into playing ARAMs late last year, but I had to drop out for around 6 months because I couldn't trust my internet. At the time we stopped playing, I had quite a lot more losses than wins, not helped by a massive 11 game losing streak back in December, or by all the people on our team who acted like idiots or ditched the game entirely.
When we got back into ARAMs in August, I made myself a strict target to hit 100 wins before 100 losses. Lots of study concerning runes, masteries, builds and tactics followed, finally allowing me to play a bit better and managing to finish games with more kills than deaths.

We really started to pick up some momentum, and today it happened that I hit those 100 wins with 91 losses on the board. We only lost 9 of our last 38 games, which is good considering the losses we were picking up some months ago.

I was very worried loading into the last game, as typically I ended up with a champ I'd never used before, being Azir. I had no idea what I was doing, but we managed to pull out a very close win. Near the end, I even had a chance to take their Nexus myself, but couldn't quite manage it before they caught up to me and took me down. But still, we won in the end and the goal had been reached.

I looked up some pointless stats from the match history website, but it only tracks the last 186 games, so my first 5 ARAMs must have been played before the new match history was created. Oh well. But from the last 186 games:

I'm especially salty about the single loss with Soraka. It would have been really nice to be unbeaten in her 10 games, which looking back would also have given me a 12 match win streak. But it was not to be, mainly due to two of our team mates spoiling it, with a Singed player refusing to play, and a suicidal Wukong player. There was only so much healing I could do man...

7th October 2014: Challenging Our Champs

Ever since Riot activated intermediate bots in custom games in LoL we've been challenging ourselves more and more against them. The latest challenge, and as far as we can tell, the hardest one we can create, was to go against five burst champions who could root or stun while using fairly weak melee champs ourselves. When the enemy bots grouped up we could not touch them, and they beat us a few times until we changed tactics. Rather than try and team-fight them, we instead outplayed them and pushed the lanes to their base. We were easily able to take their nexus down before they touched our own, with just five kills in the entire game. We have since gone on to beat them with a host of different champs and in straight up fights, so we'll need to find a new challenge...

14th August 2014: League Of Doom

Back to our adventures in LoL, and me and Scoob got a bit annoyed a few weeks back when Riot activated the Doom Bots for a few days. Playing against the Doom Bots was an interesting challenge, and one that we found very difficult while lumped in with other random players. We tried a few times to beat them, and in each game me and Scoob were able to push bot lane, usually getting to their inhibitor turret, only to have the rest of our team falter and allow both other lanes to get pushed back to our own base.
Maybe in one of the games we should have just tried to keep pushing and hope our team mates could hold out, but each time we would 'port back to help, usually after some whining from our other players. Inevitably, our defending would fail, as the other players would dive in aggressively, die, and then leave me and Scoob with no chance to defend. Bastards.

In the one game that looked like it was going our way quite comfortably, our other players seemed quite good for a change. We were 31-15 up on the bots and sieging their base, when lo and behold our Rengar player quit or had connection issues, leaving us 4v5. If we were expert players we may have been able to force it through, but the bots immediately grouped, stomped straight across the map and finished it. Gutted.

4th July 2014: Still Stuck In The League

We've tried a few other old multiplayer games, such as Red Alert 2 and Dungeon Keeper 2, but could not get both of my computers playing them for more than a few minutes before one of them crashed.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, our main game of choice recently has been League Of Legends once again. Damn thing is too addictive. Still haven't done any real PvP yet, other than a few skirmishes against each other, and some ARAMs, one of which was a One For All battle between 10 Rengars, which was interesting. I had a good start going 4 and 1, but got pegged back to 5 and 5. Buggers.
We're mainly doing Co-op Vs. AI matches, just to get a bit of IP, but even in those games we get idiots who argue amongst themselves and rage quit. It really doesn't fill me with any great desire to dive into full PvP.
