18th June 2012: Descending Into Darkness

Mr. Saggyjaw just wants a hug

I have just begun my adventure (if that's what you can call it) through Brennenburg Castle in Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Like Limbo, I had seen a few bits of this on t'interwebs and had wondered if that would spoil the experience as I played it myself. I can safely say this is not the case. This game is as freaky as a harpy doing a hula dance in hell. Because of this, it might be a game I dabble in from time to time in order to regain my sanity, much like the protagonist. But I do want to finish it fairly soon, as I have just found out the upcoming sequel is called "A Machine For Pigs", and who wouldn't want to play that?

13th June 2012: Lost In Limbo

Weeeeeeeeee

Weeeeeeeeee

Been checking t'interwebs for fun and cheap games I can have a bash at, and I came across the Humble Indie Bundle. This is a great idea: a bunch of indie games you can buy with some (or all) of the proceeds going to charity. What's not to like?
In the current bundle (which is the fifth one they've put together) you get Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Limbo, both games I've fancied playing in the past, and 6 other games I've never heard of, which I may or may not get around to.

First up I got stuck into Limbo. I'd seen a bit of footage of this game on Youtube a few months back, so had a rough idea of what to expect. It's basically a platform puzzle game where you control a little kid in a strange black and white landscape filled with machinery, giant spiders and brain-burrowing bugs. It's a fairly short game, made quicker by the fact that about three quarters of the game can be breezed passed very very easily. But then near the end I ran into several brick walls and the puzzles got a lot harder and more frustrating. The hardest puzzles were definitely ones that involved inverting gravity, and took quite some pulling out of hair and gnashing of teeth to get passed them.
But still, it's done now.

Up next will probably be Amnesia, which will be a very intriguing change of pace for me indeed. I doubt even all the Resident Evil I've been playing will prepare me for that one.

To inject a bit of insanity I really fancied buying Saints Row The Third and playing through that maybe as a co-op, but then I found out the PC version only works on Steam, and that software can just go suck on a hairy poo. It's not really the kind of game I'd fancy playing on console as I can't aim for shit on a joypad. Though I did end up semi-decent at Ghostbusters after playing it a whole bunch. Maybe I just need more practise. Hmmm.

4th June 2012: Maxing Out Where Many Have Maxed Out Before

It's taken over two months to go those last 10 levels but a couple of days back I hit top level on STO. Along with this came a new ship, The U.S.S. Kaloris and several new crew members to help fly it and shoot stuff. If it was less buggy with more interesting daily content I could see me playing this game on and off for a very long time. As it is, neither Mr. Gallear or I seem to have any interest in joining a fleet or doing high level group content (if there even is any on this game?), and neither of us have the great gear or great skills needed for PvP, so there's little left to do on this game now apart from the last few story episodes. It will be cool to get it all done and move on to the next game.

1st June 2012: Arkham City Done (Again)

Just finished going through Arkham City for the second time. This time, I concentrated on getting all the trophies and secrets and finishing all the side missions, culminating in giving the Riddler a damn good smack in the face right at the end.
It was still a very enjoyable game during the second play through, and I did try harder to do better in big fights but still sucked a bit. Right at the end though, while searching for the last few trophies in the Steel Mill, I did get my highest combo of 62. It was not very technical or skillful, but made me laugh as nearly all of the hits were on the same armoured thug. I kept using the beat down on him, counter attacking anyone else that tried their luck, before going right back to the beat down. Poor guy's ribs musta hurt like hell.
So all of the main game is done other than a couple of Batman's physical challenges and collecting Catwoman's trophies and loot. Whether I will go back and do those at another time I have no idea. I have no real intention of trying the plus mode or all the Riddler's Revenge content, but who knows what will happen in the future. I would like to play the new Harley DLC, but I hate the whole concept of it: buying these little extra bits of games for extortionate prices. Game makers can stick DLC up their asses. Even free DLC (like the Catwoman content for this game) is a problem in my eyes, as in a few years the content may be removed from their servers, stopping anyone who fancies playing an old game from getting all the stuff. Very similar reason to why I don't use Steam on PC, because if they ever turn their servers off...
I really hope there is another game in this series, but holy crap they need to do it as a co-op one. Of course one player would have to be Batman, and the other could then be Catwoman or Robin or someone else. It would be awesome to play.
