Finally got my pointing pictures up and into the Vault. Don't ask me why.

25th April 2017

Opened up a new section all for including stuff about the board game Super Dungeon Explore. There's not much in there yet until my own rules are finished, but hopefully will get some content in there soon.

7th January 2017

V6 reaches its final form, as I've added the right info bar for wider screens, as well as managing to update all the blog posts in fairly rapid time. Had the bright idea to write a script which went through the old blog posts and updated all the image tags for me, so I barely had to do any work in the end.

You Can Not Be Serious

Warhammer 40,000

This is the page where you can learn about any games I play that are set in Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe.
After receiving and playing Space Crusade as a kid I was immediately hooked on the 40K universe. The first proper Games Workshop game I played with my mates was Epic Space Marine, which was my fave game until GW ruined it with the release of Epic 40,000. We never really played Warhammer 40K that much, only playing a handful of games of 2nd, 3rd and 4th editions. Then in 2008, we finally got into playing it for real not long after the release of 5th edition. However, by 2012 we'd had our fill of it, and didn't play for nearly six months in the run up to 6th edition. Unfortunately, the new release did nothing to revive our interest. Now, instead of putting up with the constant changes to GW's own rules, we've been working on our own versions of both games, called Epic-S and 40K-S.

Battle Report

Winter Wave 3 (40K 5th Edition)

The annual Winter Wave saw Stebloke and Scooby leading 4000pts of Space Wolves and Storm Tigers in an attempt to stop a never ending wave of Ork Stompas from breaking through their lines. The battle was played down the length of a 6x4 table. The Space Marines would set up on their half of the table, with a Kustom Stompa (with Deff Arsenal, Belly Gun and Repair Krew upgrades), a Klawstompa, and a Big Mek's Stompa set up on their own table edge. The Space Marines would lose if one of the Stompas could break through their line and reach their table edge. Every time one of the Stompas was destroyed a new one of the same type would enter play on the next turn. The Klawstompa and Big Mek Stompa also had the Repair Krew upgrade, even though they are not supposed to have it, just to stop the Space Marines from immobilizing them and then leaving them stuck there.

The early turns went quite well, with the Kustom Stompa being immobilized, many Stompa weapons being stunned or destroyed, and the Klawstompa being torn apart by Bjorn The Fell-Handed. But the Big Mek Stompa shrugged off most that was thrown at it, and its Lifta-Droppa combined with the Kustom Stompa's Deff Arsenal had the Marine vehicles in all kinds of trouble. The Big Mek Stompa then reached the Storm Tigers line and proceeded to kick a Tactical Squad and the nearby Vindicare Assassin into the next life. The Tigers retaliated with all their melta weapons and fried the Stompa, which exploded, taking out a Tactical Squad, some of another squad and all the Tigers' cover.

A new Big Mek Stompa arrived, and the Kustom Stompa began repairing its damaged weapon systems. The new Klawstompa got payback on a now damaged Bjorn and stamped out the venerable Space Wolf's existence, while the Big Mek's Stompa got its own payback against the Tigers, with 2 turns of accurate fire from its Gigashoota and Deth Kannon. Suddenly, the Space Marine defences looked totally inadequate. The Kustom Stompa's repaired weapons unloaded on the Space Wolves, taking out nearly a whole Grey Hunter unit and most of the Long Fangs. Logan led the surviving troops forward, determined to hold the Ork momentum. The Klawstompa plowed in to combat, and despite Logan taking it down to its last structure point, the Ork killing machine had the final say and Logan and his unit were defeated.

We ended the game there, after 9 turns of holding the Stompas back. There was hardly anything left on the board capable of continuing the defence.
Dec 2011.

Winter Wave 2 (40K 5th Edition)

The annual Winter Wave saw Stebloke and Scooby leading the Space Wolves, Kaloris 1st Stone Legion and the Storm Tigers as they defended a fortress against Orks, Nidz and Chaos. Unfortunately due to illness and the rapidly approaching Christmas the game could not be finished. Though to be fair the defenders would not have held out for much longer. Highlights included the Ork Warboss getting squished by a Rhino after failing Death Or Glory, the Bloodthirster taking every piece of heavy weaponry we could throw at it, the Klawstompa's driver being stunned every turn and not going anywhere, Njal Stormcaller nearly killing himself, and my super heavy tanks being damn near useless in their debut game. Lore

The Kaloris Campaign

The Kaloris Campaign was a series of linked battles we started but never managed to finish. The campaign was going to span across several planets and include many different armies. Here's some information about the planets of the Kaloris system:

Kaloris I
A barren, mostly desert planet. Vegetation and townships exist nearer to the planet's poles, with several underground complexes, mainly military in nature.
Kaloris Secundus
A large planet of mainly lush green forest and aggressive wildlife, dotted with large walled cities containing considerable human populations.
Kaloris III
Gas giant. There are a few orbital gas-mining installations.
Kaloris Prime
Massive greatly habited planet with many cities and hives. Abundant metals and oils are minable from beneath the planet's surface.
Kaloris V
Rocky, barely habitable planet, filled with precious metals for mining. Several forge complexes.
Kaloris VI
Gas giant. There are a few orbital gas-mining installations.
Kaloris VII
Oxygen-rich planet but with a very cold temperate. Ice covers large portions of its surface, and snow storms are regular. Habitation is possible and several human settlements and minor cities exist.
Kaloris VIII
Rocky, uninhabitable planet. Mining the planet's resources is possible but difficult due to the lack of atmosphere.

As we never actually finished the campaign I went ahead and made up a basic timeline of what happened during the conflict:

Galactic Alliance Logo

Galactic Alliance Logo

Throughout the conflict, a collection of forces made up of humans and aliens came together to fight back against the Orks, Necrons and Daemons that were ravaging the system. Afterwards, they continued to work together on occasion, and became known as the Galactic Alliance.

Space Marines: Storm Tigers

Storm Tigers
Fluff
It is believed that the Storm Tigers were founded at some point in the 35th millennium, possibly a small offshoot of the Salamanders Chapter. They are not a strict Codex Chapter, with one of their main differences being their relatively small size. They number under five hundred, and only have three Battle Companies. There is no Veteran Company or Scout Company, as these Marines are part of the individual Battle Companies. At any one time, two of the Battle Companies will be at war in the galaxy. The third Battle Company will be guarding their space-bound fortress, helping to train new recruits, and receiving re-inforcements to replace losses.
The Storm Tigers most high profile and important battles to date have been the ones they took part in during the Kaloris campaign. Along with their fellow brother Marines from the Second Hand Chapter, they responded to requests for aid from the Kaloris Imperial Guard in order to repel the Orks, Necrons and Daemons that had invaded the system.
Most recruits in recent decades have been taken from proven Imperial Guardsmen from the Stone Legions. The Storm Tigers' fortress has pretty much been stationed exclusively in the Kaloris star system since they started to train and aquire recruits from the planets there.
The Chapter does not have a single ruling Master. Instead, a council exists containing the Commanders of each of the three Battle Companies, along with a small handful of Chaplains, Librarians and Veteran Sergeants.
Fighting Style
The Tigers have a love of overwhelming short ranged firepower, with flamers, storm bolters and meltaguns the weapons of choice, though they also have an affinity for surgical strike tactics using jump packs, fast vehicles and deep strikes. Indeed most if not all Storm Tigers have extensive jump pack training. Only the Devastator and sniper squads specialize in long range support.
One thing is for certain, every Storm Tiger is at his happiest when up close with the foe, and the faster they get there the better.
Appearance
The Storm Tigers wear dark blue armour. One shoulder pad remains dark blue, while the other is coloured orange and decorated with tiger-style stripes and a lightning bolt.
Librarians paint their armour a much lighter blue, while Techmarines leave the bare metal armour showing, and do not paint over it.
For most other Chapters, the colour of the shoulder pad trim designates what company that Marine belongs to. For the Tigers, the colour of the trim depends on what type of Marine they are, and these colours are consistent throughout the entire Chapter. Tactical squads have dark blue or black trims. Assault squads have light blue or grey trims. Devastator squads have either green or turquoise trims. Veterans and Sergeants have white trims. Commanders have white or deep red trims. Deep red is also commonly chosen as a secondary colour for commanders and heroes.
Each Marine has the choice of which colour to paint his trim from the colours he has available. They may also choose how to decorate the plain dark blue shoulder pad, if they want to at all.

Imperial Guard: Kaloris Stone Legions

2nd Stone Legion1st Stone Legion
Fluff
When Waaarrrggghhh Smashgrot invaded the Kaloris system, it was the occupying Stone Legion that took the brunt of the attack. With forces spread thinly across several planets, the Stone Legion was hard pressed and precious ground was lost to the Orks. Necrons awoke and Daemons arrived, both laying waste to the Imperium's forces. Somehow, putting aside their differences, the Imperial Guard and two Space Marine Chapters fought alongside Eldar and Tau to control the madness, and finally the system was purged. Only the Necron tomb world of Kaloris Secundus remained lost, with Necrons and Orks fighting a constant battle on its surface. Allied vessels remain in orbit ready to strike at anything attempting to leave.
Fighting Style
The Kaloris Stone Legions fight in a fairly typical manner for Imperial Guard forces. They use large numbers of tanks and heavy weapons in an attempt to cripple the enemy before rushing against the survivors with hopefully overwhelming numbers of Guardsmen.
In more recent years, since the Storm Tigers settled in their system and began recruiting from them, the Kaloris Legions have utilised their Veteran squads to a higher degree, who perform the more dangerous and precise battlefield roles, and hopefully prove their worthiness to their Astartes allies.
Appearance
The Kaloris 1st Stone Legion traditionally wear grey uniforms. High ranking officers or members of command squads may have black patterns on their uniforms, while Veterans may be decorated with royal blue. Storm Troopers wear white and black armour. Stone Legion vehicles are also predominantly grey, and some may have black or royal blue patterns. A new colour scheme was created for the 2nd Stone Legion, using the typical Galactic Alliance colours of dark blue and black with orange as a contrast colour.

Eldar: Xen-Udré Craftworld & Tau: Ja'nalora Sept

Ja'nalora SeptXen-Udré Craftworld
Fluff
The Xen-Udré Eldar arrived at the Kaloris system intent on putting down the Necron awakening on Kaloris Secundus. Quite how they arrived with the Ja'nalora Tau Sept in tow is unknown, but the two forces were instrumental during the Kaloris conflict. It is likely that without their assistance the system's planets would have been overwhelmed by the Necrons, Orks and Daemons that were running riot on them.
It seems likely the Eldar were manipulating the Tau for their own means during that war, but if they were, neither force has shown any signs of malice towards the other. With the resolution of the conflict, the two forces have seemingly gone their separate ways, with the Eldar fixated on guarding Kaloris Secundus, while the Ja'nalora Sept now travel nearby systems looking to rid them of enemies, sometimes even willing to assist the Kaloris Stone Legions in their battles.
Fighting Style
The Xen-Udré Eldar tend to fight with very little long ranged support of their own, instead opting to close with the foe and rip them apart with hails of Shuriken fire, fusion blasts, and excellent close combat capabilities.
Members of the Ja'nalora Sept are notoriously bad at close quarter fighting, even by normal Tau standards. This combined with the fact that there are very few Kroot mercenaries available to them means they fight almost exclusively at range. Broadsides and Hammerheads are a very common sight in their armies, which they use to pound the opposition, hoping to weaken them before they get too close.
Appearance
Eldar Guardians and vehicles of the Xen-Udré Craftworld have deep red armour with dark blue as a secondary colour. Unlike other craftworlds, Xen-Udré Aspect Warriors also wear the main dark red colour. In most cases, the traditional Aspect Warrior colour is displayed on the warrior's helmet (eg. Dire Avengers have blue helments, and Striking Scorpions have green helmets). Howling Banshees are a wild deviation on this colour scheme, as each Banshee decorates her armour as she sees fit.
The Ja'nalora Tau Sept wear light blue armour over dark blue combat suits. Their Sept colour is also dark blue.

Orks: Gwapstik's Boyz

Gwapstik's Boyz

Fluff
Gwapstik Snotgumz is a rogue Ork Warboss and great rival of Warlord Smashgrot. Gwapstik sometimes leads his Boyz into battles alongside the Kaloris Stone Legions after discovering the 'Oomies often find themselves participating in the biggest battles imaginable.
Despite the animosity between the Orks and the humans, the two forces have yet to take arms against each other. That will no doubt change if a time ever comes that there are no common enemies left to fight in the sectors surrounding Kaloris.
Fighting Style
In typical Ork fashion, Gwapstik and his Boyz love heading for the heart of the battle and overwhelming things in close combat. They will hitch rides wherever they can find them, even jumping on board human tanks, in order to reach the front lines as fast as possible.
Appearance
The Orks that follow Warboss Gwapstik wear simple cloth and animal skins that have been dyed dark blue and orange.
