This is where you can read any of my irregular wafflings about tabletop gaming.

23rd May 2014 - Stuff's Happened
Wow, kind of a crazy entry for this blog after some years of inactivity. It seems finally that some motivation and desire to work on this hobby is again starting to flow through my veins.
The first thing I got around to was more terrain. After finishing the oil plant I felt determined to finish all the other terrain I had started in the past. In addition, I made some steps up in the style of the hilly rock things, and some bridges to also get an interesting two-level effect.
All the terrain that needed finishing
All the finished terrain
I've also spent many hours going through all my old and never used models that have been collecting dust in the loft, preparing them all for a spraying marathon. It's been very strange tidying up my old Space Crusade stuff, which me and my friends utterly destroyed with our crappy painting efforts back in the early 90s. I've also finally glued together my Orks and Gretchin which I've owned since the 2nd edition box set, so my warboss has got some Boyz to hang around with.
With all my terrain done and (hopefully) soon all my spraying done, all I'll have left is many hundreds of models to paint. I highly doubt I'll be as motivated to get stuck into all those though...
Lots of prep work
I also lucked out recently when I had some models given to me, including some 6mm scale stuff and an original Varag Ghoul-Chewer and Horkon Heartripper. I used to have Varag back when I started playing Blood Bowl in 94, but for some reason I cut his hands off and glued them to a Black Orc to make my own version of the model in an attempt to make him more imposing. More recently I was actually planning on using a Black Scorpion model and an elf I got free with White Dwarf as these characters, but obviously these two new additions will take their rightful places on the pitch.
Gots me some originals
And now to quite an interesing little update concerning actual gameplay. Last year sometime me and Scoob started bashing out some ideas for our own ruleset based on 5th edition 40K. This was mainly because nobody wanted to play either 6th or the WARGAME rules I was originally making, and 5th had gotten a bit stale. So we've done a fair bit of playtesting and even more sitting down and discussing rule ideas over the last 6 months or so, and we're nearly at a point where the rules are sorted. We're not quite sure how we're going to decide on points values, but in order to playtest the rules a bit more, and get an idea of points, we're hoping to do a small narrative campaign sometime soon. Should be interesting.
A playtest battle begins
The Orks close in
6th April 2014 - Black Gold
It's been a long long time since this page got any attention, but for some reason, over the last couple of weeks I've been motivated to complete the oil plant that I started about five years ago. That only leaves a couple of craters and the Aegis defence line to paint and all the terrain I've started will be done. I could probably do with making a brand new river, and I have some ideas for new hilly rock things to make the ones I've already made a bit more usable, but neither of those things are really that necessary. It's not like we're actually playing many games at the moment...
27th September 2012 - A Problem Of Space
So I managed to finish that Blood Bowl model I started last time, but other than that have done absolutely nothing. I did have a little discussion with Scoob and Mr. G. about testing our own rules, but nothing else has come of it. We really just are not into wargames right now at all. Shame.
Too much junk
Anyway, I realised recently that I had got way too much terrain taking up a lot of my space. Most of which we never really used anyway, and some of it is even stashed away in the loft. I have therefore taken it upon myself to get rid of (or at least store more efficiently) some of this terrain. My problem is choosing what to ditch, if any.
Here is a list of all the shite I got:
- 40K ruins
- Forests made mainly with fish tank plants
- Four feet of pretty crappy river, with three bridges
- Three "gorge" hills designed to fit around the river
- Cave entrance designed to fit on the largest gorge hill
- Crashed Imperial craft
- GW modular hills
- Four stepped hills
- Nine different rock-hill things
- Selection of large black rock things
- 3 large craters and 7 smaller ones
- Multi-sectioned refinery, work in progress
- Aegis defence line
- Two boxes filled with random crap and spares, mainly from old toys and such
- And a shit ton of Epic scale buildings and ruins
Some of the stuff, especially the river, is pretty crappy and could do with scrapping or updating. There's a lot of ideas I've not finished or even started, and I could just be rid of those. I dunno. Damn it why am I such a hoarder?
The daft thing is I've got way more models than terrain, but because they can be boxed up and stored easier they take up much less space. Hmm. What to do, what to do...
27th Jan 2012 - Overwhelming
All last year I thought I was doing much better for getting wargaming stuff finished. But when I think back to the painting I managed to finish (Epic Nurgle, Trygon, a fair few 40K Marines & Dreadnought, Ork Warboss, a couple of Howling Banshees, some IG tanks, Vindicare, and updated some Blood Bowl teams and Star Players) it really does not seem a lot at all. Just shows you how little I've managed to finish in previous years if 2011 was a good year. This year I must push on and really knuckle down. Hopefully my Marines will be done soon, and that will be the first full 40K army I've ever finished. Maybe that will inspire me, but it's unlikely. I really wish I liked painting. It would help when trying to go through this list of jobs I still have:
- Constructing and painting 40K terrain, including oil plant, defence line, defence bunkers, craters, ruins.
- Painting 40K Marines, SoB, Guard, Eldar, Nidz, and Tau.
- Painting Blood Bowl Skaven and Dwarf teams, Star Players and Big Guys.
- Painting Epic Marines, Guard, Titan Legions, Nidz, Orks, Chaos Tzeentch and Slaanesh, Androids.
- Finishing my own wargame rules for 28mm, 6mm and Sci-Fi dungeon.
This month has been more of a gaming month while we've been giving those new Necrons some action, so painting has again been limited. I've only managed to paint a Chaplain and some Blood Bowl Elf Star Players. I've also done a bit more work on the oil plant, scratch-built a Dwarf Deathroller (it totally sucks, but at least I save a whole load of cash), and green-stuffed a couple of Skaven fingers very badly.
As far as designing my own rules, the basic ruleset for 28mm is nearly done. Can't wait!
