22nd April 2015: Six-Limbed Freaks
After the monumental feat of finishing all my Marines, I wanted to keep that momentum going and pushed on to my Tyranid army. I could have gone for Eldar, Tau or Guard, but honestly I think it very unlikely I'll ever finish those armies. Painting so many troops all the same colour, especially for the Guard, would be too boring for me to handle these days. I chose the Nidz as I've always wanted to paint each unit a different colour, just like how I did my 6mm Tyranids many years ago, and thought it would keep me more interested.
For the most part it's helped, and when I've finished the Warriors I'm working on I should be about 50% done with the army. For me, in just a few weeks, that's pretty good going.
I've mostly wanted to continue painting each unit just to see how strange they will look when I'm done, especially the yellow Hive Tyrant which I let Scoob pick the colours for.
But I've had some issues. When washing the black Hive Tyrant, I noticed the wash had dried cloudy or milky in places, rather than black like it's supposed to. Turns out, the new GW washes don't like it when you thin them with water. Damn it GW, sort your shit out.

So today I've managed to do something I've never done before in over 20 years of wargaming, and that is completely finish painting an entire army. It's no secret I hate painting, and I've had several large breaks from the hobby, but it's always bothered me that I'd never got at least one of my full armies done.
The only real things I can say I've finished over the years are several Blood Bowl teams, and two of the four forces that make up my 6mm Chaos army. But with the completion of these vehicles, my 28mm Space Marines are done, never to be added to again, hopefully.
I decided to alter the stupid drop pod tiger pattern I tried a few years back as it really sucked. I also rescued my old metal dreadnought from the loft, updated its paint and re-based it to make it more closely match the newer plastic one.
They're very simple, but overall I'm happy. It's just a shame that GW's rules have put us off the game so much, and we're struggling to find time or motivation to keep working on our own rules. I'm still hoping that will change sooner rather than later.

15th January 2015: Sort Of Landmark
I realised recently I only had to paint my Devastators and some characters to finish all the infantry in my Space Marine army. Other than five Scouts, I'd not painted any 40K for over 3 years, but this gave me the kick in the backside I needed. So pretty much for the last two weeks I've been working hard to get them done at last. Now if only I can keep this momentum and continue on to the vehicles.

And so the wheels are still slowly turning. I actually managed to do some painting a few weeks back, finishing my Marine Scouts at last, as well as a few Guard characters.
I decided to try a new trick so I could use some of the other Battle Sister models I had in the loft. Poor girls had never had backpacks since I got the models second hand. So to get them up to speed I bought some Oyumaru compound to make some moulds, allowing me to make some crappy green stuff replacements. They look pretty lame, but painted up I might get away with it.

We've been managing to playtest our 40K-S ruleset a little more, even getting to use some armies that didn't really see much play when we used to play 5th edition.
